Reading the Austra Series
Occasionally, I receive an email from someone new to the Austra series who is wondering in what order the books should be read. The books were never a numbered series the way, say, the Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire) books are, with the reader lost if a volume is missed (OK, not so sure about Volume 4, but the rest). Each Austra novel has been created to stand alone, but a certain order would give them added thrills — for example, knowing that characters turn up in later books pretty much ensures that they were not offed in earlier ones. With that in mind, I suggest following the timeline.
Daughter of the Night, is set in the 1500s and can be read at any time. Some people opt to read Shattered Glass, the first published novel in the series, first. But I suggest this order:
Blood Alone, Shattered Glass, Blood Rites, Nocturne, Beyond Sundown. The Violin is best any time after Blood Rites. At any rate, in whatever order you read them, I hope you enjoy them as much as I did writing them. With characters like these, revisiting their world is truly a joy!
I’m thinking that Patrick should start blogging.
